So S says to me looking at a snarling dog on the exam table: Why can't you just scrape this dogs teeth here in the exam room; Dr. Barrow does it.?
I gave her a withering look and said because it leaves etch marks all over the enamel that need to be polished and worse; you don't get to really examine the dog's mouth. How are you going to know where the points of infection are, how deep the gingival pockets are, where are the fractures and infections? Dentistry isn't all about just making the teeth look pretty.
It exactly illustrated the point I made at one of the staff meetings: slipshod off the cuff remarks leading to nowhere except atrocious medicine. She said: Don't expect too much from the people of Bolton. I said: you have to

your clients to understand better medicine. Nothing against Mims who is a dear; she is used to working in cow capital where there is absolutely no money. That isn't the situation here at all. People want better health care for their pets. I hope to deliver it and more and not retreat to a level from the 1960s.
